Villages of Kapolei, Northwest Corner

After meeting with 'Ikenakea Development LLC and sharing your collective community concerns regarding the affordable housing project on the corner of Fort Barrette Road and Farrington Hwy., referred to as Villages of Kapolei NW Corner, or "Leiwili" the developer expressed their commitment to receiving community input and understanding the needs of our community members.  I inquired as to whether the developer would like to receive feedback directly, or through my office.  They thought it was best that my office receive community concerns regarding the project and provide it to them.  The developer is also conducting their own community engagement efforts and you can be heard during community forums going forward, so stay tuned for future opportunities to provide your input.  Some of the input the developer already received focused on what residents wish to see in the new development, such as providing services, as a part of the “retail” spaces.
 

The theme of community concerns provided to me from constituents centered around (1) traffic congestion; (2) overcrowding in the area/overdevelopment; (3) a desire to keep the area a green space (as it has remained for decades); (4) a desire to see the Makakilo Drive Extension (MDE) built to help with traffic congestion as this project moves forward; (5) a desire to utilize the space for temporary uses (such as fairgrounds, as it was used in previous years); (6) inquiries about the actual “affordability” of the rentals specifically; and (7) what they envision as a part of the overall map of the district
