Rep Souza's Caucus Involvement
Chair, Aviation and Space Caucus
The Aviation and Space Caucus is a forward-thinking endeavor and collaboration to (1) focus on HawaiÊ»i’s role in aviation and space with a keen eye on the public and private sectors, infrastructure, and opportunities for growth and expansion; (2) bolster the aviation and space industries for the State of HawaiÊ»i to achieve economic diversification, increase our work force, and train and retain local talent in career paths related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics; (3) identify and capitalize on HawaiÊ»i’s regional benefits in the areas of aviation and space due to our location in the Pacific; and (4) create a legislative space to inspire and facilitate ideas that can showcase HawaiÊ»i as a contender in the aviation and space spheres.
Co-Chair, Maritime Caucus
The Maritime Caucus aims to foster informed discussions about the unique challenges and opportunities facing HawaiÊ»i’s maritime industry, and to provide a space where we as legislators can deepen our understanding of key issues that impact our state in this regard.
Hawaiʻi's location in the Pacific and dependence on shipping for essential goods make our maritime industry critical to the well-being of our residents and economy. The Maritime Caucus will engage in discussions on topics such as freight shipping, the resilience of our interisland supply chains, and the sustainability of our local ports and harbors. Additionally, we will explore other nautical issues, from maritime safety to recreational ocean activities.
Co-Chair, Future Caucus
The Future Caucus is established with the goal of promoting bipartisan solutions to the challenges Hawaii will face in the coming decades. This caucus will focus on areas such as economic development, sustainability, education, healthcare, and innovation. We aim to create a legislative space where members of the House work together to secure a prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable future for all Hawaiʻi residents.
Co-Chair, Good Government Caucus
The purpose of the Good Government Caucus is to re-establish and build upon the Hawai‘i State Legislature’s past history of caucuses that have focused on open and collaborative government, public access and transparency, ethics, elections, and campaign reforms that help to promote greater public trust and confidence in our democracy. The GoodGovernment Caucus will focus on proposed rule, statutory, and constitutional changes that strive to build this greater public trust and confidence.
